Whatever happened to…?

Fans attending the 2009 LG&T Tennis Challenger might be curious as to what has recently become of some of our losing players and last-minute withdrawals:
Australian Chris Guccione, who withdrew from the LG&T because of an Achilles tendon problem, went to the Cincinnati Masters event to try to qualify and advanced to the second round there.
Marcos Baghdatis, who didn’t want to risk playing so soon and so often after his victory in Vancouver last week, also went to the Cincinnati qualies (as a wild card), where he fell in three sets to American journeyman Robert Kendrick, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. He should have gotten his much-needed pre-U.S. Open match play here at the LG&T.
17 year-old Ryan Harrison also received a wild card into the Cincinnati qualies, where he lost in the first round to Czech Jan Hernych, 6-3, 6-3.
Perhaps the LG&T’s No. 1 seed, Uzbekistan’s Denis Istomin, had other plans as well. He won his first round match in the Cincinnati qualifiers over Michael Llodra of France, 6-3, 7-6 (5).
