Ball Defeats Klingemann in Feature Match
In the feature match tonight, Carsten Ball of Australia defeated newcomer Chris Klingemann 7-6 (5), 6-2. Klingemann is new to the Challenger circuit, having just graduated from Ohio State last December, and winning his first Challenger match this past Tuesday against former Binghamton champion Scott Oudesma. The first set was by the book, on serve all the way. Ball struck first in the tie-breaker, getting a mini-break to take a 2-1 lead. Right away Klingemann struck back with a mini-break of his own to level the tie-break at 2 all. The rest of the tie-break was back and forth, and featured 2 aces by Ball. When the dust cleared it was 7-5, tie-break going to Ball.
Losing the tie-breaker appeared to knock some of the wind from Klingemann's sail, as he was able to hold serve only twice in the second set, losing the set and his chance for a berth in the quarter-finals 6-2.
