Local Doubles Team Advances to Second Round of Qualifying

The doubles team of William Mendler and Kristopher Shumway, both from Towanda, Pa, have advanced past the first round of qualifying with a win over 15 year old Nebojsa Peric, from Serbia, and 16 year old Anthony Assal from the Bronx. After splitting 2 tiebreak sets, 7-6(5) and 6-7(4), the Mendler/Shunway team won a super-tiebreak set 12-10 to advance. They will face the doubles team of Victor Romero from Mexico and Aleksey Vayner from Uzbekistan, the winner will gain a wild card entry into the doubles competition. Mendler is the head pro at the Binghamton Tennis Center.

In singles action today, Eric Nunez (USA) defeated Travis Rettenmaier (USA) 6-3, 6-3, in a match that was continued after being called due to darkness yesterday, completing the second round of singles qualifying.

The qualifying singles final matches were also completed today. The results are:

Antonio Ruiz-Rosales (MEX) defeated Ken Skrupski (GBR) 6-2, 6-3
Chris Klingemann (USA) defeated Luis Manual Flores (MEX) 7-6(4), 6-3
Luigi D’Agord (ITA) defeated Eric Nunez (USA) 7-6(2), 6-2

Gregorc, Ruiz-Rosales, Klingemann, and D’Agord will advance to the main draw singles, which has now been finalized. Refer to the attached draw sheet for the seedings.
