Local Doubles Team Qualifies for Main Draw

The doubles team of William Mendler and Kristopher Shumway, both from Towanda, Pa, have advanced into the main draw this morning with a second round straight set win over Victor Romero from Mexico and Aleksey Vayner from Uzbekistan, 6-3 6-4.

Mendler and Shumway qualified for a wild card spot in the L G & T Tennis Challenger by winning the Clay Court Championship this past spring held at the Binghamton Tennis Center. Mendler is the head pro at the Binghamton Tennis Center. Doubles action will continue on Wednesday.

Top Seed Capdeville Advances

Paul Capdeville had a relatively easy time in winning his first round match, posting 6-3, 6-2 victory over Luka Gregorc. Capdeville looked cool and in control on the court, staying out of trouble and winning most of his serves easily.
