Number 1 Seed Capdeville Slides into Semis
In the opening semi-final match today Paul Capdeville(CHI) won easily over Jesse Witten (USA) to reach the semi-finals of the Levine, Gouldin, and Thompson Tennis Challenger, 6-1, 6-0. Also playing on court 1, a more competitive early match was taking place between Americans Rajeev Ram and Brendan Evans, with Ram emerging as the winner in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5.
In the feature match at 5:30, American and former University of Georgia standout Travis Helgeson took on the number 5 seed from Slovakia, Lukas Lacko for a spot in the semi-finals. With the match on serve at 4-4, 30-all, down came the rain. The match was called and will be resumed on Saturday ay 11:00 AM.
In other singles action today:
- Carsten Ball, the number 7 seed from Australia, finally dispatched the pesky Italian qualifier Luigi D'Agord in a close match, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (5).
In doubles action today:
In a quarter-final doubles match, the Battistone brothers, Brian and Dann (USA) showed that they, and their unique 2-grip racquets, can play at this level, taking out the number 3 seed doubles team of Brendan Evans (USA) and Ken Skupski (GBR). In a thrilling 3-setter, the Battistone's earned their way into the semi-finals 7-6 (5), 2-6, 10-8.
In a semi-final doubles match, Carsten Ball (AUS) and Travis Rettenmaier (USA) defeated Luis Manual Flores (MEX) and Brad Pomeroy (USA) 6-2, 6-3.
