Wimbledon Update
After a not-so-great showing in Paris this year, recent Binghamton participants did pretty well in Wimbledon. Robert Kendrick ('01 & '02) may be the biggest highlight, as he came close to surprising the #2 seed, Nadal, after getting through qualifying. Andy Murray was the big one to watch and again showed his difference and potential as he took out #3 Roddick in straight sets. Andy played extremely well in multiple matches to get to the 4th round. Other highlights include Falla (Finalist in '05) taking out #9 seed in the 1st round after qualifying; Tursunov(#1 seed in '04) matched Murray in getting to the 2nd week, but hurt his 5 set record, losing 9-7 in that 4th round after his temper topped out in that 15th game; Tipsarevic ( #2 seed in '04), who had a great match but a tough draw; Benneteau (Semis in '03) followed up his French run with a 2nd round; Kevin Kim ('01-04) and Frank Dancevic ('04) also made it through qualifying.
You watch that Tipsarevic, Murray, or Federer match... you really see the difference in athleticism required of grass tennis. No big swings, or long set ups of points, a lot more reaction and quickness to it. Does the grass require more raw athleticism, ability to react quickly, than clay??
